Play Along: sheet music with the next note highlighted and a piano keyboard below

Three ways to play

Use an acoustic piano (the app listens through the microphone), a digital piano, or a USB/Bluetooth MIDI keyboard. Everything runs on your phone.

Learn

60 short lessons in 7 units: the keyboard and middle C, reading treble and bass clef, rhythm, sharps and flats, scales and chords, and playing with both hands. Each lesson checks what you actually play.

Play Along

Follow the sheet music. Right notes turn green; wrong notes you played show up in red right on the staff. "Wait for me" mode pauses for you, "Keep the beat" mode scores your timing.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, completely. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads and no account — every lesson and every song is included.

Do I need a digital piano?

No. Any piano works: the app listens through your phone's microphone. A MIDI keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) gives perfect note detection if you have one, and there's an on-screen keyboard too.

Does it send my playing anywhere?

No. The app has no internet permission at all. Audio is analysed on your phone and never stored unless you save a Free Play recording, which stays on your device. See the privacy policy.

I've never read music. Is this for me?

That's exactly who it's for. Lesson 1 starts with telling white keys from black keys.

Which phones does it support?

Android phones and tablets running Android 17 or newer.

Where do the songs come from?

Traditional and public-domain melodies arranged for the app, hymns from the Open Hymnal Project and Project Gutenberg, Bach chorales from McGill University's open dataset, and pieces typeset by Mutopia Project volunteers. Full credits and licenses.
